Shirley "Nana" Sandoz was a generous and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She left this world suddenly on February 28, 2022 at age 73.
Shirley was the second of nine children born to Emma Jo & Eugene Brantley on December 30, 1948. After graduating from Mount De Sales Academy in 1967, Shirley started a career with the Social Security Administration in Woodlawn, MD, where she had a long and distinguished career. Shirley met Jim Sandoz in 1969; they were married in Baltimore in 1971, had four loving children, and celebrated their 50th anniversary last April. After the birth of her first grandchild in 2000, Shirley retired to devote her time to being a full-time Nana. Nothing brought Shirley more happiness than spending time with her five grandchildren, Cole (21), Kate (16), Isaac (9), Eitan (7), and Julian (4).
Shirley is lovingly survived and remembered by her husband Jim Sandoz, children Amanda (Noam) Luft, James (Molly) Sandoz and Emily (Tim) Sandoz, and grandchildren Cole and Kate Lindenbaum, Isaac and Eitan Luft and Julian Sandoz-Gibson. She was preceded in death by her son Stephen Sandoz (2015), parents Emma Jo (2017) and Gene (2000) Brantley, and parents-in-law Elizabeth (2011) and Walton (1979) Sandoz.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 5th at Parkview Funeral Home in Parkville, MD, with visitation from 1-3pm and service at 3pm. Reception to follow in Parkville. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Toys for Tots, The Salvation Army, Helping Up Mission, or the Maryland Food Bank.
