On Wednesday, December 29, 2021, Robert D. Cook, Jr. passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, after having bravely battled cancer for several months. He is survived by his wife, Karen T. Cook (nee Myers), their sons Kevin A. Cook, Christopher R. Cook and Alexander J. Cook, granddaughters, Madisyn A. Cook and Hannah B. Cook; sisters Grace E. Davis and Mary Rose Cook; and numerous nieces and nephews. Robert was predeceased by his parents, Robert D. Cook, Sr. and Gladys E. Cook (nee Blake), and a brother, Francis H. Blake.
Robert was raised in Hampden by his maternal aunts, Frances Myers and Gertrude Hoffnagle after his mother Gladys died when he was four years old. He attended and graduated from Polytechnic Institute in May 1978, the last graduating class before the school converted to co-educational.
Robert was a loving and devoted family man and loyal, hard-working employee, having worked many years at Cloverland Dairy then 25+ years as a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service.
When his sons were young, Robert coached soccer and basketball at Roosevelt Rec Center in Hampden, and after moving to Baltimore County, he coached basketball in Parkville for his youngest son, Alex. Robert also volunteered in the school classroom for his youngest son, Alex, in Parkville, attending school field trips and participating in other school activities. He never missed a sports game or practice for each of his three sons while they played soccer, basketball, football, lacrosse and badminton.
Robert enjoyed watching the Baltimore Orioles baseball, Baltimore Ravens football, Washington Wizards basketball games and college sports, including Maryland Terps football and basketball. He also enjoyed going to flea markets and yard sales, sometimes taking his oldest granddaughter, wife, or sons. He specifically enjoyed collecting bobble-heads and wrestling figures.
A date for Robert’s memorial service is to be determined.
