William Davis Milligan (1942-2023)
William Davis Milligan, age 80, loved God and His Word. He lived a life of service and integrity. Known for preaching God’s Word as he worked in seven different churches and started many long-lasting programs throughout his 50 years of public ministry. Bill was intentional in visiting all his congregations in their homes, often via bicycle. He also highly valued keeping his congregations informed of God’s work denominationally as well as in missions.
Predeceased by his parents, Rev. William and Marlowe Milligan and his sister, Carol Ann Milligan Kramer, Bill leaves his beloved wife of 56 years, Edie.
They are the proud parents of three sons (and daughters-in-law): David (and Sue), Mark (and Wendy) and Thomas (and Jennifer). He enjoyed spending a special week celebrating his grandchildren’s 10th birthdays traveling with each. Their grandchildren are Walter (and Rachel), Lesley, Laura, Andrew, Katie (and Quinn Trautman), Jacob, Ethan, Anna, Lemlem, Caleb and Eli. Two great granddaughters are Charlotte and Eleanor Milligan. He will be remembered not only for his life of ministry but also for sharing his passion for traveling, camping, biking, hiking, and reading with his family and friends. Bill had an excellent sense of direction (geographically and spiritually).
He was born in Woodbury, NJ on Dec. 6, 1942, and grew up in Chevy Chase, MD. During his childhood he was active in Wallace Memorial Church. As a high schooler he organized a campaign that enabled the Christian Youth Crusade to purchase a bus. Upon graduation from Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School, Bill attended Barrington College in RI, and then Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in MA. He was ordained into the ministry by the Washington Presbytery in 1968, whereupon he served in pastoral ministry, primarily in PA. He also served as Chaplain for the Saint Mary’s Fire Dept in PA. He retired from his final pastoral position at Graystone Presbyterian Church in 2018.
We, his family, and friends thank God for Bill’s life and witness to God’s goodness.
