Raymond Plotecia age 74 of Baltimore, Maryland passed away peacefully at home on Thursday after a long illness. Ray was born in New York City to Anastasia and Sam Plotecia in 1946. His parents and his brother Ron are deceased. He attended Woodbridge High School in New Jersey, Florida Atlantic University and received his PhD in population ecology at the University of North Carolina. He found his greatest joy in surfing, triathlon and in writing fantasy fiction and thrillers. He was a five-time Ironman Hawaii finisher and former president of USA Triathlon. He and his wife Malonnie enjoyed running, swimming and cycling together. While they did not have children, Ray was the perfect cat father and also established important and lasting friendships with several young people in the community. The job that brought him the most satisfaction and joy was at the Ivy Bookshop in Baltimore. Here he loved helping others find their ideal reading experience. Ray had an enduring love of the French culture and the city of Paris in particular. While he participated in many sports, he was also a devoted spectator and above all appreciated baseball. His love of music and films was legendary. He was a treasure trove of knowledge in both genres. He will be missed by many.
Funeral services will be private. To honor his lifelong interest in ocean ecology and habitat preservation, memorial donations may be made in the name of Ray Plotecia to the Surfrider Foundation at https://app.mobilecause.com/vf/SURFRIDER/MalonnieKinnison148
