Lawrence Lowman Meckel passed away on May 30, 2025 due to the complications of dementia.
He was the youngest of seven and last surviving son of James and Hilda Meckel. From his early years growing up in Baltimore city, becoming a soldier, steel worker, devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, we celebrate his life and the fortune we had to be part of it.
A graduate from Mount Saint Joseph High school, he volunteered for military service in the army specializing in cryptography. He was stationed in Germany and served on active duty at the start of the Vietnam war.
After serving his country, Larry was employed at the Bethlehem Steel plant at Sparrows Point Maryland. He held positions as a primary mill electrician and later a lead supervisor for the continuous caster. For our family, his 40+ years of employment brought a happy home life and an introduction to the wonderful people he worked alongside. These amazing people that started as our father‘s coworkers, became our extended family and were indeed blessings for us all.
As survivors, we must come to grips with the loss and cast away the remnants of the sickness.
Larry was preceded by his wife of 66 years, Joan Ann and daughter Teresa Lynn. He is survived by his daughter Nina Ann, son Paul Lawrence, daughter-in-law, Tammie Lynn, grandchildren; Tina Marie, Deanna Lynn, Robert Lawrence, Lance Tyler, and great grandchildren Linus and Aurora.
The family will hold a private service. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a veterans charity of your choice.
