James A Shuler Obituary
James A. Shuler (Jim)
November 2, 1950 - December 26, 2024
On December 26, 2024 James Arthur Shuler transitioned to heaven. Beloved husband of Janet Shuler. He had several health challenges, yet he never complained, always thinking of others before himself. He had a big heart and a big family whom he loved dearly.
He is survived and dearly missed by his wife Janet, his children and their spouses; son James Shuler, Dustin Shuler and daughter Chantal Foor. In addition, his grandchildren were his pride and joy: Madelyn, Ryan, Jacob, Logan, Elliana, Dason and Derek.
Jim’s heart was bigger than Texas. His love filled all of the family gatherings.
Janet’s children and their spouses loved him as well: Joshua, Michael, Tara, Philip and Holly. Her grandchildren also loved PopPop Jim: Joshua David, Caleb, Olivia, Leo, Micah, Nico, Isaac and Owen.
He was the quintessential family patriarch, sharing a strong bond of love with his nieces and nephews as though they were his own: Kimmy, Gary, Michael, Rick, Christin, Lori, Lynn and Tina.
Jim knew how to love sincerely and deeply.
Overcoming many challenges and adversities during his childhood. He credited Catholic priests that took him under their wings as their ‘mission project’ for ‘saving his life’. They paid his tuition to attend a prestigious prep school in Syracuse, NY. He said that rescued him from the streets.
Having served honorably in the US Marine Corp. during the Vietnam War era resulted in serious injuries to James. He could have received a 100% disability (which at that time, meant he would not be able to be employed). He chose not to take it, because he wanted to work. He was a hardworking, stubborn and determined man - in a good way.
Becoming a successful entrepreneur, James grew Shuler Painting, Ltd. from a can of paint and a spray gun into a thriving commercial painting business in Syracuse, NY. After retiring his business, he worked as a National Construction Manager with C&S Engineers, also in NY state.
That is how he met his wife Janet while working on a construction project, in NJ, at the school where she was an administrator.
He came into a living faith with Jesus Christ with her and they shared their faith together. He was the wind beneath her wings, supportive of her in so many ways. Jim had a deep and quiet faith. He was an integral Board member for His Kingdom Ministries.
An animal lover of the 1st water, he was a veritable Dr. Doolittle. His current dog (an 18 wk old puppy, Smokey J.) still sleeps at the foot of his chair, missing him and wishing for his return. Jim loved fishing and sports. He was an avid Syracuse college basketball fan, NY Yankees and Giants fan. (Pictured above he is grinning from ear to ear wearing a NY Yankees World Series ring knock-off.)
