Christine "Peggy" Smith

Christine M. "Peggy" Smith, age 89 of Parkville passed into eternal rest on Monday, April 17, 2023 in Pickersgill Retirement Community with family by her bedside. Born in Ashville, PA to the late Joseph and Mary Suckinos; beloved wife of the late Robert Bradley Smith; loving mother of Therese, Juliana and late Gregory Smith; sister in law of Rodney (Roberta) Smith of Danville, CA; dear sister of Mary Lidwell of Ashville, PA, Patricia Ellis of Janesville, WI, Shirley Suckinos of Cresson, PA, Michael Litzinger of Myrtle Beach, SC, Roxann (William) Stewart of Martinsburg, PA and late Olive Kolak, Joan Sell, Joseph Suckinos and John Suckinos. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She will be lovingly missed.

An artist, Peggy was an avid oil painter in her younger adult years but continued to sketch and paint in various mediums throughout her life. She loved nature and the outdoors, walking thru the woods, identifying plants and birds. A lifelong member of The Baltimore Bird Club and Maryland Ornithological society, she was thrilled to have seen the most elusive of local birds in her backyard, The Baltimore Oriole. A fan of the other Baltimore Orioles, she attended games when she could and loved watching them and The Baltimore Ravens. Going back to college, she earned an Associates of Arts Degree at the age of 54 in Mental Health and began her career working at Sheppard Pratt. An ardent swimmer, Peggy could be found on summer evenings at her swimming club every season. She also taught swimming at the Community Colleges of Baltimore County, Essex Campus. A piano player and organist, she took guitar lessons so that she could play at her church and bible study group. She was a prolific reader and loved going to the library to find something new to check out.

Family will receive friends on Monday, April 24, 2023 from 2:00 - 4:00 PM and 6:00 - 8:00 PM in the family owned Parkview Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 7527 Harford Rd, Parkville. A Funeral Service will be held in the funeral home on Tuesday, April 25, 2023 at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow in Moreland Memorial Park Cemetery.
