He was born in the middle of a blizzard on January 21, 1938 in Hancock, Michigan, arriving 15 minutes before his twin sister Gen, a son of the late Cyril and Verona (Manderfield) Stone.  He was raised in Houghton, MI and was a proud member of the 1955 Houghton High School Basketball State Championship team.

Stoney joined the United States Navy and honorably served aboard the USS Norris from 1956-1958. After his service, he arrived in Baltimore, MD and wed Diane on April 5, 1959.

He worked as a machine mechanic for Steeltin Can Corp (U.S. Can) for more than 30 years, retiring as the only “white shirt” supervisor that knew how to fix every machine in the plant.

Stoney enjoyed working in the garden and watching the birds come to his window bird feeder.
