Bernard "Dan" Pfisterer Obituary

PFISTERER, Bernard Daniel (“Dan”), age 69, of Hampden, Baltimore, died at home of pancreatic cancer on Thursday, January 13, 2022. He was 69.

He was born October 3, 1952 to Bernard Leo Pfisterer and Delores Miller, and grew up in Parkville, Maryland. He graduated from Parkville High School in 1970. Dan attended classes at Towson University, Baltimore Community College and Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA).

He served in the U.S. Navy, 1976-1978 as a radioman, stationed in Keflavik, Iceland.

He married Karen Klinedinst on February 22, 1991.

Dan worked for 17 years as a book designer at Williams & Wilkins. He was the owner of Purrr Patrol, a cat-sitting service, where he was known as Dan the Cat Man, and featured in Baltimore Magazine in August 2000. Later, he worked as a sterile processing technician at the Greater Baltimore Medical Center and Union Memorial Hospital. Dan retired from Union Memorial in 2018.

Dan’s passion was art, book design, art history, painting and drawing. He was a member of Baltimore’s Resurgam Gallery in 1990s.

In addition to art, Dan’s interests included astrology, physics, and Kenpo karate. Dan was a committed and dedicated cat lover and rescued and re-homed many strays.

Dan is survived by his loving wife Karen; Joseph Pfisterer (brother) and Carole Pfisterer (sister-in-law) of Berryville, VA; Dawn Kleiner (sister) of Tampa, FL; Suzanne Klinedinst (mother-in-law) and Richard Klinedinst (father-in-law) of Mechanicsburg, PA; Michael Klinedinst (brother-in-law) and Andrea Klinedinst (sister-in-law) of York Haven, PA

Deborah Schlusser (sister-in-law) of York Haven, PA; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Dan was preceded in death by his brother Denton Hinkle of New York, NY (1942 - 1985).

Dan leaves behind four cherished feline companions: BC, Annabelle, Luna and Simba.

Memorial service is private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Dan’s name to BARCS (Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter) or Maryland SPCA.
