Evelyn Marie McGreal

Evelyn Marie McGreal, age 86, of Parkville, MD passed away on January 7, 2018 at St. Agnes
Hospital in Baltimore, MD. Born on October 12, 1931 at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore,
MD. She was the daughter of Mary McGreal (Minihan) and Francis McGreal. In addition to her
parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Francis S. McGreal. Evelyn is survived by a
nephew and niece, several great nephews and nieces, many cousins and her beloved cat, Miss
Ginger.

Evelyn graduated from St. Bernard's Parochial Grade School, attending Clifton Jr. High for a
year and finally graduated from Eastern High School in 1950. She studied as a student nurse for
three years until graduating from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in 1953. She began working
as an OB nurse and advanced to become head of the Nursery Department at Mercy Hospital in
1956.

While reading the New York Times, she saw and applied for a nursing job with Arabian
American Oil Co. in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. She was employed by ARAMCO from July 1960
to 1963. During this time, she had many great adventures traveling around the world and visiting
many places that at the time were taboo for women. Evelyn visited King Saud's Palace in
Riyadh, had a long weekend in Iran; rode camels in front of the pyramids in Cairo. She would
later meet up with friends and drove through Italy with many stops throughout Europe. Visited
India, Nepal, Bangkok, Cambodia, Hong Kong, Japan and later found time for an African Safari.
She even had a Christmas dinner with a Lochte Navy Nurse on board of the USS Hector and
spent New Year's in Hawaii.

When Evelyn finally returned state side, she obtained her BSN and MSN at University of
Maryland. She taught for the Baltimore City Schools as a Vocational Instructor for the LPN
Program; an In-Service Mercy Hospital Instructor and later at Church Home and Hospital School
of Nursing. Even worked as an Infection Control Nurse at Franklin Square Hospital.

Evelyn lived in Hamilton for several years until 1975 to 1980, when she returned to Saudi Arabia
as an Infection Control Nurse for the King Faisal Hospital. Afterwards she lived and worked in
Utah for several years until returning to the area and retiring from Johns Hopkins Hospital in
1993.

In 2000, Evelyn began a new adventure when she came to Oak Crest Retirement Community in
Parkville. She was very active with the Computer Club, Red Hats Ladies, Sunday services in the Chapel and presenting Ann Chair Travel Power Point Presentations highlighting all of her life adventures.

Family will receive friends Saturday, January 13, 2018 from 1;30-2:30 PM in the Oak Crest
Chapel A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 2:30 PM. Interment will be Monday, January 15, 2018 at 12 PM in Loudon Park Cemetery.
