Daniel O'Dell Obituary

Daniel G. O'Dell, 70, of Gettysburg, passed away Sunday morning, February 11th, 2024 at College Manor Assisted Living in Lutherville, MD with family and caregivers by his side.

Dan was born August 29th, 1953 to Wenzel C. and Dorothy J. (Rosensteel) O'Dell of Gettysburg. As a boy, he spent summers with his Aunt Cackie and Uncle Gene Lazarchick in the mountains of Perry County, Pennsylvania, where he developed a love of the outdoors. He attended Gettysburg Area High School and was a member of the football, wrestling, and baseball teams before graduating in 1971.

Dan graduated from Shippensburg State College with a BS in Accounting in 1977 and worked for ESAB Welding & Cutting Products (formerly Alloy Rods Corporation) for thirty-five years, first as an accountant and later as an inventory planner. Upon retiring, he enjoyed helping his neighbors with lawn care and house maintenance, and worked briefly for the Gettysburg Foundation.

Locally, Dan was a former member of the Gettysburg Elks Lodge, American Legion Post 902, VFW Post 15, and the Gettysburg Country Club. In his spare time, he enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing, bicycling, walking the Gettysburg Battlefield, and detailing cars, the latter of which he was known to have a meticulous eye for.

Dan is predeceased by his parents and his brother, Michael O'Dell. He is survived by his son, Benjamin O'Dell, wife Kelly, and two granddaughters, of Buford, GA; his daughter, Lyndley Andrews and husband Peter, of Lutherville, MD; and his sister, Margaret Dick and husband John, of Hanover, PA; along with many loyal friends and extended family members.

A celebration of life will be held in the Charlie Sterner Building - Assembly Room space at the Gettysburg Recreation Park, 545 Long Lane, Gettysburg, PA on Sunday, March 3rd at 1:00 PM.  Per Dan’s wishes, please dress casually and come with memories to share.
